Pengertian Dasar Microwave (Gelombang Pendek)

Microwave atau gelombang pendek adalah gelombang elektromagnet yang memiliki panjang gelombang antara 1 mm (milimeter) samapi 1m (meter) yang berarti range frekuensinya antara 0,3 GHz (Giga Herz) sampai 300 GHz (Giga Herz).

Range frekuensi microwave dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok, yaitu :
  1. Ultra High Frequency (UHF) : 0,3 – 3 GHz
  2. Super High Frequency (SHF) : 3 – 30 GHz
  3. Extra High Frequency (EHF) : 30 – 300 GHz


Aplikasi pemakaian microwave sangat banyak, diantaranya adalah untuk radar, GPS, pemanas oven, komunikasi televisi, radio wireless, komunikasi satelit, dll.

Sebenarnya apa sih kelebihan microwave sehingga banyak aplikasi-aplikasi khususnya bidang telekomunikasi menggunakn microwave. Kelebihan dari penggunaan microwave yaitu :
  • Bandwidth yang lebar
  • Kemampuan hantar yg tinggi
  • Mudah dalam instalasi

Selain itu, terdapat kerugian dari penggunaan microwave. Kerugiannya yaitu :
  • Jarak jangkauan yg terbatas
  • Rawan interferensi RF/EM
  • Rawan terhadap perubahan cuaca
